Klymit Sleep Outside series - Caroline favorite trip to blue lake and Rockville/Mesa Trailhead

Where:  Mount Saint Helens

Length + Difficulty (Hike or backpacking trip):
Day hike, 10 miles out and back. Difficult. 4,450ft elevation gain, 8,365ft summit.

Best time:
Late spring into Summer

Brief Summary:  I hiked St. Helens taking the Monitor Ridge route via Climbers Bivouac in August 2021 with my girlfriend and some family. It’s a great non-technical climb/hike that goes through some alpine, boulder fields, and miles of ash. We started the ascent at 2:15am and summited at 8am, getting back to our car around 1pm. The stars, sunrise, and view from the summit were the highlights.

What to bring:
Hydration pack, snacks, sunglasses, sun hoodie, puffy jacket, sunscreen, trekking poles, gaiters.

Any Klymit Gear Recommendations:
Mystic 20L Hydration Pack

Klymit KLymaloft Sleeping Pad

 Insulated Static V Luxe

Top three features:
1. Larger size to accommodate people who toss and turn
2. High R-value for all-season camping
3. Small pack size for backpacking

Best for: Car camping or backpacking

Deconstructed Spring roll camp recipe

Name: Campfire pizza

• Naan, pita, or premade dough
• Sauce/olive oil + salt & pepper
• Cheese, I like mozz
• Toppings - Anything you want! Spinach, onion, olives, garlic, bacon/pepp/prosciutto, etc.

Make sure your fire is hot and consistent. I like to pre-bag all of my ingredients before the trip so I can just lay the naan in foil, add sauce and dump on all of the toppings. Cover pizza in foil and let cook. Time depends on fire. If you don’t have a campfire, an alternative is making in a pan on top of a Jetboil/backpacking stove! Pro tip: fold in half and eat like a taco :)
