Winter transforms the outdoors into a wonderland of opportunities for adventure and recreation. Whether you're seeking heart-pumping sports, peaceful nature walks, or cozy experiences by the fire, winter offers a unique set of activities to enjoy in the fresh, crisp air. From snowshoeing across untouched landscapes to cozying up in a yurt after a day of skiing, winter camping and outdoor recreation are perfect for those looking to embrace the season's beauty and thrills. With the right gear and a sense of adventure, you can make the most of the cold weather and create unforgettable memories in the great outdoors.

Snowshoeing

Don’t have snowshoes? No worries! You can rent snowshoes at most local outdoor stores and even some resorts. Most trails that you can find in the summer are also available in the winter for snowshoeing. Always check beforehand on a canyon website, AllTrails, or other another trusted source to make sure the trail is good to be snowshoed on.

Hiking in winter

Some trails won’t require snowshoes but can be icy. For these trails, take some crampons! These are spikes you can use to attach to your hiking boots for better traction on ice. Try taking one of our Horizon blankets and an Orca Chaser with you so you can take a break to eat some snacks and have a warm drink on your winter trail! * Always use caution when hiking on icy trails.

Sledding/Sleigh rides

This one is a little more location specific as it may not be available in less snowy areas. If you are up for something new and have kids who like to get out in the winter, this could be a great family activity. Make sure you bundle up and call beforehand if scheduling is needed. Try taking our Homestead Cabin Comforter to keep your family warm during the activity!

Book a yurt or cabin

Who doesn’t love an opportunity for glamping? In winter it can be a lot more challenging to camp, so why not spruce it up a bit with a yurt or a cabin? This option can be a little pricey, but it’s worth not giving up comfort. Check the amenities offered at whatever location you are staying at so you can bring what you need if it isn’t already offered.

Discover Winter Landscapes and Wildlife

Immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of winter landscapes and embark on a memorable wildlife observation adventure during your winter camping trip. As you journey through snow-covered terrain, you’ll witness nature in its purest form. Keep an eye out for elusive creatures like snowshoe hares and deer as they navigate the frosty forests with grace. The majestic, snow-capped mountains and serene frozen lakes provide a breathtaking backdrop to your outdoor experience. With the crisp, invigorating winter air, this is a rare opportunity to connect deeply with nature and create lasting memories. Winter offers a rich array of outdoor adventures, each filled with the opportunity to embrace the season's unique beauty and excitement. So bundle up, venture out, and make the most of the season's wonders—your next adventure awaits!
