Using Your Gear

Who is the Base Tier designed for?

The Base Tier is built for weekend campers, first-time outdoor adventurers, and anyone who wants dependable comfort without paying for technical features they won't use. If you're heading to a campground, a festival, or a family trip a few times a year, Base gives you everything you need at an accessible price.

How does Base compare to Summit and Peak?

Base is Klymit's entry tier focused on reliable comfort and durability at a budget-friendly price.

Summit adds Klymit's patented technologies, lighter weight, and better insulation for more frequent campers.

Peak is the top tier, built for demanding conditions and those who want the best packability and warmth. Base is the perfect starting point if you're still discovering how much you camp.

Is the Base Tier gear warm enough for cold nights?

The Klymaloft Base sleeping pad has an R-Value of 1.6, making it best suited for spring, summer, and early fall camping in moderate conditions.

For colder weather camping (below 40°F), consider the Summit or Peak Tiers which offer higher R-Values of 2.4 and 4.2 respectively. Pairing your Base pad with a good sleeping bag can extend its seasonal range.

Is the Base Tier good for someone just getting into camping?

Absolutely. The Base Tier is one of the best ways to equip someone new to the outdoors. The products are easy to use, forgiving, and comfortable enough that they won't write off camping after their first trip. The Klymaloft Base pad and Drift Base pillow are especially popular as starter setups.

Will I eventually want to upgrade from Base?

Many campers find Base gear serves them well for years of casual use. If you find yourself camping more frequently, in colder conditions, or going backcountry, that's when the Summit or Peak Tiers start to make more sense. Base is not a compromise, it's the right tool for the right adventurer.

What is the R-Value of the Base Tier sleeping pads?

The Klymaloft Base has an R-Value of 1.6 and the Static V Base has an R-Value of 1.3. R-Value measures thermal resistance — the higher the number, the more insulation from the cold ground. These values are ideal for three-season camping in mild to moderate temperatures.

How packable are Base Tier sleeping pads?

The Static V Base packs down to just 3" x 8", making it very compact for backpacking. The Klymaloft Base packs to 8.6" x 4.3", which is slightly larger due to its foam-air hybrid construction. Both include a compression sack and are designed to fit easily in or on a pack.

What fabric is used in Base Tier pads?

Base Tier sleeping pads use 75D Polyester fabric, which is durable enough for regular camping use and resistant to everyday wear. The fabric is soft to the touch while remaining tough against ground contact. Higher tiers use the same core fabric construction with refinements in weight and texture.

Do Base Tier products come with a warranty?

Yes, all Base Tier products are backed by Klymit's Lifetime Warranty. Klymit stands behind the quality of every product in every tier, so you're covered regardless of which tier you choose.

How do I inflate the Klymaloft Base sleeping pad?

The Klymaloft Base uses Klymit's Flip Valve system and inflates in just 20–30 breaths. Open the Flip Valve, inflate to your preferred firmness, then snap the cap closed to seal.

How do I inflate the Static V Base?

The Static V Base inflates in just 10–15 breaths and requires no pump. Its compact V-chamber design fills quickly with minimal effort. When you're done, open the valve fully, roll from the far end toward the valve, and the pad will compress into a surprisingly small package.

Can I use Base Tier products in a tent with limited space?

The Klymaloft Base measures 72" x 23" and the Static V Base is the same footprint, both designed to fit comfortably inside a standard single-person tent. The side rails on the Static V Base also help keep you centered on the pad, reducing the chance of rolling off during the night.

How do I care for and clean my Base Tier pad?

Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap after use. Avoid harsh chemicals or machine washing. Always store your pad inflated or loosely rolled, never compressed for long periods, as this can stress the seams over time. Allow it to air dry completely before packing to prevent mildew.

Can I repair a puncture in my Base Tier pad?

Yes. Minor punctures can be repaired using a standard TPU patch kit (available at most outdoor retailers) or you can contact Klymit support at support@klymit.com for warranty service. Klymit's Lifetime Warranty also covers manufacturing defects, so reach out if your pad has an issue from the factory.
