SUMMIT SERIES FAQ'S
Is This Right for Me?
Product & Specs
Using Your Gear
Who is the Summit Series designed for?
Summit is built for the dedicated adventurer who camps regularly and wants gear that genuinely elevates the experience. If you're logging multiple trips a season, exploring longer trails, or spending nights in cooler conditions, Summit offers the perfect balance of Klymit's patented technology, premium materials, and thoughtful design — without jumping to professional-grade pricing.
How is Summit different from the Base Series?
Summit introduces features you won't find in the Base series: Klymalite synthetic insulation on select pads, a more refined foam-air hybrid construction in the Klymaloft line, lighter overall weight, and better packability. The Summit sleeping pads have an R-Value of 2.4 versus Base's 1.3–1.6, meaning meaningfully better insulation from cold ground. Summit is where Klymit's signature innovation really starts to show up in your sleep quality.
Is Summit warm enough for cold-weather camping?
Summit pads carry an R-Value of 2.4, which covers three-season camping comfortably including cooler fall nights and early winter conditions above freezing. For consistent below-freezing temperatures or dedicated winter camping, we recommend stepping up to the Peak Series (R-Value 4.2–7.0). For most active campers in the contiguous U.S., Summit handles the vast majority of trips with ease.
Should I choose Summit or go straight to Peak?
If you camp regularly in three-season conditions and want premium comfort without top-tier pricing, Summit is the right call. Peak is purpose-built for extreme cold, ultralight backcountry travel, and professional-level demands. Move to Peak if you're regularly camping below freezing or need maximum insulation for long expeditions.
Is Summit a meaningful upgrade if I already own Base gear?
If you've outgrown Base by camping more often, in cooler conditions, or simply wanting a better night's sleep, Summit is a noticeable step up. The Klymaloft Summit's foam topper and I-beam chambers eliminate pressure points in a way the Base pad can't match. The Static V Summit's Klymalite insulation adds real warmth on colder nights. If camping has become a regular part of your life, Summit is worth the investment.
What is the difference between the Klymaloft Summit and the Static V Summit?
The Klymaloft Summit uses a foam-air hybrid design and a plush foam topper sits over I-beam air chambers, creating a mattress-like feel with good packability. It's the more comfort-focused option. The Static V Summit is a pure air pad with body-mapping V-chambers and Klymalite insulation built in — it's lighter, packs smaller, and is better suited for backpacking. Both carry the same R-Value of 2.4 and are excellent three-season performers.
How do the Drift Summit pillows compare to Base Series pillows?
The Drift Summit pillows are filled with shredded memory foam and gel fiber — a significant upgrade over the polyurethane foam fill in the Drift Base. Both Summit pillows are machine washable and feature a dual-sided cover with a water-resistant outer shell and a soft jersey cotton inner. The Drift Summit XL is 20% larger than the standard Drift Summit, giving you near-full-size pillow comfort at camp.
Do all Summit pads come with a warranty?
Yes, every Summit Series product is backed by Klymit's Lifetime Warranty, the same coverage offered across Base and Peak. Klymit stands behind the quality of every product regardless of tier. If you experience a manufacturing defect or product issue, reach out to the support team at support@klymit.com or call 888-655-3632.
How do I inflate the Klymaloft Summit sleeping pad?
The Klymaloft Summit uses Klymit's Pump or Stuff Sack Inflator method and inflates in just a few pump strokes or breaths. Open the Flip Valve, inflate to your preferred firmness, then snap the cap closed to seal. The foam topper means it will feel slightly firmer than a pure air pad — adjust pressure until the foam contours comfortably against your body. Klymit's Tempest USB Pump is compatible with Flip Valve models for an even faster setup.
How do I inflate the Static V Summit?
The Static V Summit inflates in 15 to 20 breaths using the Klymit Flip Valve with no pump needed. Blow in slow, deep breaths and adjust firmness to taste. For best body-mapping performance, avoid over-inflating; a medium firmness allows the V-chambers to flex and conform to your sleeping position. To deflate, flip the valve fully open, fold the pad lengthwise, and roll from the foot end toward the valve.
How should I store my Summit pad between trips?
Store your Summit pad loosely inflated or unrolled flat in a cool, dry place. Avoid keeping it compressed in its stuff sack for extended periods — sustained compression can stress the seams and foam over time. If storing the Klymaloft Summit, allow the foam topper to fully decompress between trips. Before each trip, inspect the valve and seams for any signs of wear and do a quick inflation test to confirm it's holding air properly.
Does the Static V Summit Double work well if partners move around at night?
The Static V Summit Double is designed with motion isolation in mind. The independent V-chambers limit how much movement transfers across the pad surface. The Klymalite insulation layers also separate the top and bottom of the pad, so one person's shifting doesn't disrupt the other's thermal comfort. While no camping pad matches a hotel mattress for motion isolation, the Summit Double handles real-world couple camping very well.
